Laura Alonso Criticizes President's Anti-Journalism Campaign

The spokesperson for the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, Laura Alonso, expressed her disagreement with the aggressive campaign against journalism led by President Javier Milei, comparing it to the worst moments in world history. She stated that promoting hatred and disqualification not only contaminates but destroys the democratic public debate. She emphasized that attacking a specific group is even more serious and reminded the importance of press freedom in democracy.

Alonso condemned the attitude of libertarian influencers like Daniel Parisini, known as 'El Gordo Dan', and the Director of Digital Communication of the Government, Juan Pablo Carreira, for promoting the imprisonment of communicators humorously on social media. She stressed the defense of press freedom and freedom of expression as pillars of democracy and the open, pluralistic identity of the City of Buenos Aires.

Regarding the electoral campaign, Alonso highlighted the candidacy of Silvia Lospennato as the only representative of the PRO and criticized her opponents, Manuel Adorni and Leandro Santoro. She referred to them as the option of 'indiscriminate chainsaw' and the continuation of 'negligence and Kirchnerist corruption', respectively. She believed that the porteños prefer someone with experience and knowledge of the City.

Anticipating the elections in Buenos Aires, Alonso mentioned that the discussion in the province would take place after the elections on May 18. She criticized Karina Milei, Secretary General of the Presidency and organizer of La Libertad Avanza, for not wanting to discuss a joint arrangement in the city. Furthermore, she accused Horacio Rodríguez Larreta of solely seeking the Mayor's Office of the City and spreading lies about the PRO. She expressed her confidence that these tactics would have the opposite effect desired in the electorate.
